Hanging tips to hang a hammock

PART I: HANGING TECHNIQUES FOR A SINGLE, DOUBLE OR FAMILY-SIZE HAMMOCK

First, you’ll want to scout out your location and decide which of the techniques below best fits your environment. Keep in mind these are just the most simple hanging techniques - not the ONLY ones - and you can always extend your hammock’s reach with longer ropes!

INSIDE YOUR HOME

To hang a hammock indoors, drill two hooks into a ceiling or wall beam. Use a rope or carabiner to link each hook with the eyes of the hammock.

BETWEEN TWO TREES

Wrap a rope securely around each tree trunk and attach the ropes to the eyes of the hammock (using a knot or carabiner).

FROM AN OVERHEAD BEAM ON YOUR PATIO OR DECK

By wrapping two ropes securely around the beams or posts and attaching the ropes to the eyes of the hammock (using a knot or carabiner).

A HYBRID APPROACH

You can also use a combination of structures to hang a hammock- for instance, a porch post and a tree. Secure a rope to the porch by drilling a hook or wrapping it around. Secure the other rope to the tree. Make sure the two sides are hung evenly!

BONUS! HAMMOCK STAND COMPATIBLE

Our hammocks are compatible with most hammock stands on the market- if you are considering a hammock stand, double check our hanging specs (below) with the stand manufacturers' recommendations.

PART II: OPTIMAL DIMENSIONS FOR YOUR CLASSIC DOUBLE HAMMOCK

Now that you’ve picked out how you want to hang your hammock, you’ll want to know where to place your anchor points. The following measurements are the OPTIMAL dimensions to hang each of our hammocks.

(These dimensions are optimal, but if your hammock environment doesn’t match up to these measurements perfectly, you’ll also find our recommended ranges for each measurement below. And, as always, remember you can extend the reach of your hammock by using ropes!)

Classic Double Hammock

Optimal Width (between eyes)........... 120 in / 10 ft
Optimal Height (of eyes)....................... 60 in / 5 ft
Optimal Distance from Ground ........... 24 in / 2 ft

RECOMMENDED RANGE OF DIMENSIONS FOR YOUR CLASSIC DOUBLE HAMMOCK

We understand that not every environment lends itself to the above optimal dimensions. Below you’ll find a range of recommended dimensions that will work for you!

Classic Double Hammock

Range of Width (between eyes).. 96 in / 8 ft - 132 in / 11 ft
Range of Height (of eyes) .......... 48 in / 4 ft - 72 in / 6 ft

PLEASE NOTE: The closer you hang the eyes together, the higher your hammock will need to be from the ground. For example, you will not be able to hang a hammock at a width of 8 ft and height of 4 ft. Your measurements will likely fall somewhere within the recommended range.
