What the cushions are made from
The cushions in this collection use one of two fill materials, depending on the model:
- High-density sponge foam — the most common fill in our standard cushions. Holds its shape well under regular use, typically 8–10 cm thick. Suitable for covered outdoor areas or indoor use. Not designed to be left out in rain.
- Quick-dry foam with Oxford fabric cover — used in our outdoor-rated cushions. The foam has an open-cell structure that drains and dries faster after rain. The Oxford fabric cover resists UV fading better than standard polyester. If your chair lives outside year-round in Queensland or coastal areas, this is the one to choose.
Cover fabrics vary by cushion — some are removable and machine washable, others are spot-clean only. Each listing specifies which applies. If you're in a humid climate or have pets, a removable cover is worth prioritising.
Keeping the cushion in good shape
A few habits make a real difference to how long the cushion lasts, especially outdoors:
- Bring it in during heavy rain if it's a standard foam cushion. Even water-resistant covers will let moisture through eventually, and foam that stays wet for days will start to break down and can develop mould inside.
- Spot clean spills quickly. Most cover fabrics respond well to a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking the whole cushion unless the cover is removable.
- Rotate it occasionally if the chair gets heavy use in one spot — the foam will compress unevenly otherwise.
- Use a chair cover if the chair is outdoors and uncovered. An egg chair cover keeps UV off the fabric and stops debris collecting in the basket between uses.
