Built for Australian Conditions
Every frame in this range is made for outdoor use. The materials are chosen to handle sun, humidity and the odd downpour.
- Powder-coated steel frames resist rust. They're light enough to move between rooms or take camping.
- Solid timber frames give a warm, natural look. Keep them under cover so they last longer.
- Breathable hammock fabrics: cotton for indoor comfort, and polyester or synthetic weaves for outdoor wear.
Hammock or Hammock Chair: How to Choose
Both let you relax without trees, but they work in different ways. A hammock is a full-length bed you stretch out in. A hammock chair hangs upright as a seat, like a swing.
A hammock with stand suits you if…
- You want to lie flat for naps, reading or sleeping outdoors.
- You have 3–4 metres of clear length for the hammock and frame.
- You want a lounge spot for one or two people.
- You like a cocoon-style wrap or an open spreader-bar design.
A hammock chair with stand suits you if…
- You're short on floor space, such as a balcony, bedroom corner or small patio.
- You'd rather sit up than lie down.
- You enjoy a gentle 360° swing. Chairs that hang from one point give you this.

Matching Your Hammock to the Right Stand
Some hammock shapes work better with some stands. Use this guide to match a setup to your space.
| Setup | Where It Goes | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Steel stand + traditional hammock | Indoors or outdoors | Easy to move and quick to set up. Great for renters and travellers. |
| Timber stand + spreader bar hammock | Covered patio or deck | A lasting feature with a warm, natural finish. |
| Steel stand + spreader bar hammock | Poolside or a sunny yard | Sunbaking, easy in and out, and a modern look. |
| Timber stand + cocoon hammock | Indoors or a covered outdoor area | A cosy, wrap-around feel for naps and reading. |
Where Each Material Works Best
The material decides how long your setup lasts and where it should live.
| Material | Indoors | Outdoors | Care Tips |
|---|---|---|---|
| Powder-coated steel | Yes. Clean, modern and easy to move. | Yes. Resists rust in open yards. | Touch up deep scratches to stop rust. |
| Natural timber | Yes. A warm look for living areas. | Best under cover, like a patio or deck. | Oil it once a year. Keep it out of long rain. |
| Cotton fabric | Yes. Soft and breathable for naps. | For short spells. Store it after use. | Fades in harsh sun. Dry it fully to stop mould. |
| Polyester / synthetic weave | Fine, but not as soft as cotton. | Yes. Stands up to sun and moisture. | Dries fast and needs little care. |
| Rope or macramé | Yes. A light, airy, decorative look. | Covered areas only. | Keep it dry. Check for fraying over time. |
Keeping Your Hammock and Stand in Good Shape
A few simple habits will protect your setup and keep it looking new for years.
- Sun protection: Cotton fades in harsh sun. Unhook the hammock and store it inside when you're not using it often.
- Keep it dry: If a cotton or canvas hammock gets soaked, let it dry fully before you store it. This stops mould. Nylon and parachute fabrics dry much faster.
- Steel stand care: Check the powder coating now and then. If a scratch reaches bare metal, touch it up with rust-proof paint or a clear coat.
- Timber stand care: Once a year, treat it with a good timber oil or marine varnish. This stops cracking and weather damage.
- Winter storage: In the wettest months, pack everything into a dry shed or garage. It will last longer.
Hammock with Stand FAQs
What's included in a hammock with stand bundle?
Most bundles come with the hammock, the freestanding frame and the parts to join them. These are usually S-hooks, chains or fabric straps. Check each product page for the full list, especially if you want extras like a carry bag, pillow or spare parts kit.
What weight can a freestanding hammock hold?
Bundles in this range hold from about 120 kg for compact singles up to 240 kg for heavy-duty doubles. The frame usually sets the limit, not the fabric. Always check the weight limit on the product page before two people share the hammock.
Can I use a freestanding hammock indoors as well as outdoors?
Yes. Powder-coated steel stands work inside and out with no extra care. If you use a timber stand outside, keep it under cover, such as a patio or veranda. For indoor use, measure your ceiling height first. Taller spreader-bar bundles need about 2.1 metres of headroom.
How long does assembly take, and do I need tools?
Most steel stands go together in 15–30 minutes. They use a clip or snap-lock design, so you won't need tools beyond what's in the box. Timber stands take a little longer. They usually need a Phillips-head screwdriver or a basic spanner. Instructions and hardware are included.
How much space do I need for a hammock with stand?
Allow about 3 metres of length for a single hammock and stand. A double or spreader-bar bundle needs 3.5–4 metres. Leave at least 50 cm on each side so the hammock can sway without hitting walls or furniture. If space is tight, compact arc-style stands take up less room.
